"My Awards Go Jingle, Jangle, Jingle ..." -- Master Gerhardt von Nordflammen

For each "region" of the Kingdom there are awards that have special Court Report requirements. Below is a breakdown of the special needs/requirements for some awards when reporting them. There is nothing 'secret' here, so don't worry that you stumbled across something you aren't supposed to see.

Note that for most of the regions below there is a note about getting the names of competition winners -- it is always best to try to do this BEFORE court. This can be difficult as sometimes the Arts and Sciences Minister (for example) doesn't know who the winner is when they ask you to be put on the court business. However, you are responsible for reporting these -- please find them and get the name after court if necessary, but most importantly, GET THE INFORMATION!!

Kingdom of the West

Countess (former Crown Consort) -- Automatically a member of the Order of the Rose in the West Kingdom, however, for the purpose of the Court Report, this should be listed separately. It is a peerage in and of itself, and ranks with the Orders of Chivalry, the Laurel, the Pelican, Defense, and the Mark.

The Order of the Rose -- if a former Crown Consort were to move to the West, having reigned in a Kingdom where the Order of the Rose is not automatically given [and they were not admitted to that order], and then reigns here in the West, they should be admitted to the Order of the Rose, the herald should check their listings in the Award List before the event they step down at, and then consult with the Crown and Heirs on this matter. (This is a special-case that to date has not occurred ...)

The Royal Missle Company -- gives a Grant of Arms if the recipient does not already have one. Please check! Should be entered as "Royal Missle Company/Grant of Arms" in this case. Please don't confuse The Royal Missile Company with the Order of Missile Champions -- they are two different recognitions.

The Western Gold Scarf -- gives a Grant of Arms if the recipient does not already have one. Please check! Should be entered as "Western Gold Scarf/Grant of Arms" in this case.

The Scarves of Achievement -- gives a Grant of Arms if the recipient does not already have one. Please check! Should be entered as:

Leaves of Achievement and The Order of the Western Lily -- all give an Award of Arms if the recipient does not already have one. Please check! Should be entered:

Court Baron/Baroness -- gives an Award of Arms if the recipient does not already have one. Please check! Should be entered as:

Child Royale -- The child(ren) of the Crown may be styled as “Prince Royale”, “Princess Royal”, or “Heir Royale” for the duration of Their reign. This temporary title goes into the Awards List, and and one of the appropriate titles here should be used. Note that this should occur at Coronation.
When the reign is over, the Children Royale are released, and if They have not received one before, they receive an Augmentation of Arms -- there is a ceremony for this, and it should be recorded in the Court Report as simply "Augmentation of Arms".

Roll of Western Heroes -- PLEASE note the number (click name of award). The Ceremony may be up-to-date, but if possible check the awards list (click the link for the title here). Should be entered as "Western Hero [#]" in this case.

Pillars of the West -- PLEASE note the number (click name of award). The Ceremony may be up-to-date, but if possible check the awards list (click the link for the title here). Should be entered as "Pillar of the West [#]" in this case.

The Archery Champion of the West and The Order of Missile Champions -- during Coronation, when the Archery Champion is created, and they are also offered at the same time membership in the Order of Missile Champions (NOT to be confused with the Royal Missile Company). If they accept (and they are not already a member) then you need to report BOTH of these as separate entries in the Court Report. Also as noted above, if the new member of the Order of Missle Champions does not have an Award of Arms, then that needs to be entered as a separate entry in the Awards List. All three need to be listed separately. This is not automatically handled by the Golem Herald. See "Kingdom Championships" below.

The Rapier Champion of the West and The Order of the Western Prima Spada -- during Coronation, when the Rapier Champion is created, they are also offered at the same time membership in the Order of the Western Prima Spada. If they accept (and they are not already a member) then you need to report BOTH of these as separate entries in the Court Report. As with the Order of Missle Champions, if the new member the Order of the Western Prima Spada does not have an Award of Arms, then that needs to be entered as a separate entry in the Awards List. All three need to be listed separately. This is not automatically handled by the Golem Herald. See "Kingdom Championships" below.

The Cut & Thrust Champion of the West and The Ordo Della Scherma -- during Fall Crown, when the Cut & Thrust Champion is determined and created, they are also offered at the same time membership in the Ordo Della Scherma. If they accept (and they are not already a member) then you need to report BOTH of these as separate entries in the Court Report. As with the Order of Missle Champions, if the new member the Ordo Della Scherma does not have an Award of Arms, then that needs to be entered as a separate entry in the Awards List. All three need to be listed separately. This is not automatically handled by the Golem Herald. See "Kingdom Championships" below.

The Order of the Banneret: Previously this was simply the Knight Banneret, but as of November, 2025 is now the Order of the Banneret, and members may be of any and all of the bestowed peerages of the West. As such, please note which "Banneret" the person made a member is:

This would go into the Court Report as: Banneret, Order of [Peer From List].

Kingdom Championships:
The following honors also carry an Award of Arms if the victor does not have one, and this should be listed:

More confusing is that for the Archery Champion, the Award of Arms is really associated with membership in the Order of Missile Champions, which is a separate recognition from the Archery Champion title. For the Rapier Champion, membership in the Western Prima Spada also grants an Award of Arms, but it should be separate. So:

For the Archery Champion For the Rapier Champion: For the Cut & Thrust Champion: For the Equestrian Champion: Please note that as of January, 2020, the Arts and Sciences Champion is for the reign of the current Crown only, and as such, does not receive an Award of Arms with this recognition. However, while it is a temporary title, it needs to be placed in the Court Report.

For the Arts and Sciences -- Western Artificer:
First, as this is a series of competitions over time, the winners of individual contests may be brought into court and announced. However, the big part of this is at Beltane Coronation, where the overall winner is named to the Order of the Western Artificer as well as being named The Western Artificer (which is a temporary position for one year). Both of these need to be added separately, because over time a person may win The Western Artificer more than once, but they would already be a member of the Order of the Western Artificer, in which case only The Western Artificer would need to be listed.

All Champions and Winners of Competitions and Other Items The Herald May Not Have Been Given The Recipient Name For -- IT IS VITAL THAT YOU GET THESE NAMES -- ask for the name(s) before court if the item is on court business. If the name(s) are not yet known because the competition has not occurred, FIND THE PERSON RESPONSIBLE AFTER COURT and get the name(s). This is a good sized list:

  1. The Muckin' Great Clubbe
  2. The Old Battered Helm
  3. The Wreath of Athena
  4. The Wooden Spoon
  5. The Pied d'Argent
  6. Archery Champion (see above)
  7. Rapier Champion (see above)
  8. Cut & Thrust Champion (see above)
  9. Equestrian Champion (see above)
  10. Western Artificer (see above)
  11. Herald Extraordinary *

* While the "Herald Extraordinary" title is not an official West Kingdom award, the Laurel Sovereign of Arms will not recognize the title if it is not a) announced in court, and b) published in the Kingdom Awards List. If Laurel doesn't recognize it, then a herald who is granted this recognition who wants to register a personal heraldic title, which they are entitled to, are not allowed to. Please work with us on this, and be sure to get the name(s) if announced in court!

The Order of the Acorn -- there are three different recognitions (just like the Corolla Aulica for the Mists), and these should be reported by the type of acorn: Bone (for service), Iron (for combat, archery, etc.), and Copper (for arts and sciences). These should be listed in the Court Report as:

The Western Order of Loyal Friends (WOLF) -- this recognition is given to our animal friends. However, it is also given to their humans. As such, please enter this in the court report as:
AnimalName [human: human name]      -- if there multiple humans, then:
AnimalName [humans: human1 and human2]      -- as appropriate.

Principality of the Mists

Viscountess (or former Coronet Consort) -- Be sure to list membership in the Order of the Perles de le Mer as a separate line in the report. This is automatically given, but it is a separate award.

Perles de Le Mer -- See Viscountess, above. Also, if the person has reigned outside of the Mists, but this is their first time as Princess (or Prince Consort) in the Mists, they should have been admitted to this order at the end of the reign.

The Corollae Nebulosae -- The Corollae use different colored ribbons for each recognition. The Corolla Aulica is given for service, uses a white ribbon; the Corolla Muralis is given for martial activities, uses a green ribbon; and the Corolla Vitae given for arts and sciences uses a blue ribbon. Please be sure to note the NAME of the individual Corollae given for an individual from below:

Stylus Nebulorum or Stylus Nebulorum Exemplar -- If the Principality Scribe did not give you the name(s) of the recipient(s) before court, and comes into court and asks that a new member (or new members) be made to this order, be sure to get the name(s) after court.

The Bard of the Mists, Archery Champion of the Mists, and Rapier Champion of the Mists -- carry an Award of Arms if the recipient does not already have one, this needs to be noted in the Court Report as a SEPARATE entry (Award of Arms) if needed. More confusing is that the Bard of the Mists is not tracked in the Awards List directly (they are listed under the Golden Branch) and an historical record is mainted on the History website), but if they receive an Award of Arms when they step up to this position, then the Award of Arms should be reported as simply an Award of Arms.

The Order of the Keystone of the Mists carries with it an Award of Arms if the outgoing officer does not already have one. As above, this should be entered separately in the Court Report.

The Captain General of the Mists -- if not a member of the Corolla Muralis, is to be admitted to that Order, and should be entered separately into the Court Report.

Competition-Based Awards/Recognitions -- Often the minister of the Order or the A&S Minister comes into court and announces the winner. Please be sure to get the names either before or after court (preferably before court so you don't forget after):

  1. Silver Spoon
  2. Saltatoris Nebularum
  3. Artifex Nebularum
  4. Champions (see above): Rapier (Mists and Princess'), Archery, Equestrian

By Kingdom Law, and with permission of the Crown, the Principality Coronets may give: Leaves of Achievement -- all give an Award of Arms if the recipient does not already have one. Please check! Should be entered:

Also by Kingdom Law, and with permission of the Crown, the Principality Coronets may give:

Principality of Cynagua

Viscountess (or former Coronet Consort) -- Be sure to list membership in the Order of the Crystal Swan as a separate line in the report. This is automatically given, but it is a separate award.

Crystal Swan -- See Viscountess, above. Also, if the person has reigned outside of Cynagua, but this is their first time as Princess (or Prince Consort) in Cynagua, they should have been admitted to this order at the end of the reign.

The Ruxton -- PLEASE note the number. The Ceremony may be up-to-date, but if possible check the awards list (click the link for the title here). Should be entered as "Ruxton [#]" in this case. In addition, if the recipient does not have an Award of Arms, the Ruxton grants one -- be sure to note this!! If an Award of Arms with the Ruxton, it should be entered as a separate recognition (the recipient's name would be entered twice, once for the Ruxton, once for the Award of Arms).

The Swanilīn of Cynagua -- there are three of these, please be sure to list the appropriate one for the recipient:

  1. The Swanilīn dës Wîges -- combat (any forms)
  2. The Swanilīn dës Ambetes -- service
  3. The Swanilīn dër Kuntz -- arts and sciences

The Legend of the Raven -- this is given either for individuals or for groups. It is a numbered award in both cases. So when entering this into the Court Report, please use one of these:

  1. The Legend of the Raven - Individual [#]

The Bards of Oertha -- PLEASE note the number. The Ceremony may be up-to-date, but if possible check the awards list (click the link for the title here). Should be entered as "Bard of Oertha [#]" in this case.

Awards of Arms: By law and custom in the West (the Law change was done sometime between 2001 and May 2007 -- which is the first set of Laws of the West that establish this right, but it was probably earlier -- not all printings of the Laws are available), the Sovereign and Consort of the Far West may grant Awards of Arms to subjects of the Far West, without a need to consult with the Crown of the West. The law is in Article IV - Arms and Orders; Section 1 - Awards; Section 1.1: "The Crown hereby grants to the Baron and Baroness of the Palatine Barony of the Far West the right to offer Awards of Arms to subjects of the Palatine Barony of the Far West." This is due to distance factors ...
