REPORTS
Vesper (Damir), Compline (Moira): The day before the meeting, at Cynagua Investiture, Caolinn Rose Maddox was established a Herald Extraordinary and this has been recorded in the Awards List and forwarded to the College of Arms. Please help Vesper in congratulating Caolinn when you next see her.
Crown was a successful event with all needed heraldic bases covered with multiple folks unable to attend. Damir’s deepest thanks to Alizan, Rich, Elinora, Teagan, Eilis and all of our other volunteers for pitching in and getting the job done! Special thanks to Else/Heinrich for their assist in transporting herald’s point.
This will be Damir’s final meeting as Vesper. He has every confidence in his successor, Moira, who will take the reins at Purgatorio and will be running the September meeting.
Seawolf (Elewys): Appreciate Hirsch and Moira’s assistance with ceremony revisions. Thank you to everyone who assisted with Mists Investiture. Thanks to Leon von Schrecken for his continued training.
Sable Swan (Teagan): No report received.
Stellanordica (Anne): She breezed down out of the North and surprised everyone at Cynaguan Investiture. Oerthan Summer Coronet/Investiture is coming and is covered for heraldic work. She will be down for a couple of months and attending events.
Exchequer (Moira): The College remains solvent. Our account with the Society College of Arms for prepayment of fees has been replenished.
We have received all past payments for PayPal submissions, including a check for the fees for this meeting, which was handed to her the day before at Cynagua Investiture.
Matins (Edith): The submissions process continues to roll forward. This month’s submissions includes those processed at Great Western War.
Baldric (vacant): This position is vacant.
Brachet (Ræv): No report received.
Green Cloak (Victoria): No report received.
Green Crown (Moira): Moira was unable to attend both June Crown and An Tir/West War due to illness and injury. Her extreme and heartfelt thanks to Alizan De la Fontaine for taking over organizing and running the Courts at June Crown with very short notice, and Richard Talbot of Blackmere and Her Highness Clare for taking over Kingdom Court and Grand Court at An Tir/West respectively, and Elenore who stood King’s side herald.
The Green Crown Ceremony books and the "Travel" book have been updated with the current edition of the general ceremonies. Until additional binders have been created, the Coronation ceremonies will be swapped in and out of the existing binders.
Green Trumpet (vacant): Vacant.
Green Banner (Aasa), Successor (Rayven): There was not a consult table at An-Tir/West War, but consultation does continue to happen throughout the Kingdom.
Golem (Hirsch): In the foreground things are pretty much “business as usual”. Court Reports are usually in pretty quickly, and the royalty are usually pretty quick at confirming them – Golem seldom needs to request that they check their email. (It does happen, but not too often.) As always, suggestions for the website more useful are always taken seriously (Golem doesn’t get a lot of those).
After the last meeting, Golem did some looking at the issue with names in the award list that was in the last Golem report (dealing with names such as “Stephen” which can be spelled in many ways, for example). Some work went into determine a good way to handle this, and to help with the issue, and now if you search for “Stephen” (for example), you will get “Steven”, “Stefan”, “Stephan”, “Stefana”, and more. This does mean when the results come up you may find you need to look carefully to get the name you’re looking for. If you know the name, such as “Stephen of Bellatrix”, you can type “Stephen of” and you will bypass the larger set of results. A bit of experimentation will help, but overall Golem hopes this helps with name searches in the Awards List and Who’s Who data. Note that there is also the “Contains/Includes” option, if you select this, and type “Bellatrix” you will get just the folk who have “Bellatrix” in their name, which may help.
In the background things are a bit busy. Nothing bad, but the SCA Corporate web team created a policy some time back that all official websites and domains that are used by the Kingdom (westkingdom.org, basically) must be hosted on one service. The Kingdom is using Google for hosting the Kingdom website, as well as other branch websites, possibly some of the officer sites. The heralds website (and the History site) are on Dreamhost, a completely different hosting service. We are working on moving things. If the websites were simple, this wouldn’t be too difficult, but because they use databases, and various programming languages, it is taking some time. The Kingdom “Technomancer” Karius is working with Golem on this project, and determining the technical things that are needed, so we can do this. There may be some disruption in the near future as we migrate everything, and get the web addresses pointing to the new location. Hopefully this won’t be too complicated, but we will see.
There is something coming that caused the above to be started, but that can be discussed after things have settled, the goal is by the beginning of August at the latest, hopefully sooner.
