REPORTS

Vesper (Antonio): Deputy (Eilis): Antonio has reached out asking an individual to consider taking the position of Brachet, more information to come soon.

Congratulations to Moira Seawolf for her elevation to the Order of the Pelican.

The College’s congratulations to Antonio for his receipt of a Grant of Arms.

Seawolf (Moira): Following is the brief Seawolf Herald report for the West Kingdom College of Heralds Twelfth Night meeting on January 8, 2023.

Mists Fall Investiture took place on Saturday, November 19. Her thanks to Baroness Angeleta Marina Castillo de Guzman and Baroness Elinora O'Connor for Heralding Consort's side for the final court of Helga and Hans and the Investiture Court/First Court of Neil and Kelsy, respectively.

The “de-gendering” of the Mists ceremonies is nearly finished. She has received feedback from several Heralds regarding the gender-neutral terms used. She continues to work closely with Their Highnesses on the wording of the ceremonies, to ensure the revised ceremonies use the same terms now written into Principality Law

Their Highnesses have determined the format for Their Coronet Tournament, which will be triple-elimination. Depending on the number of entrants, they may require more Field Heralds than usual.

Sable Swan (Victoria): There has been little activity this last quarter with the holidays.

She did attend Fettburg Yule where they held a small court heralded by the Baronial Herald.

She will be posting this next week seeking help with courts for Investiture.

Stellanordica (Eilis, interim): Eilis is holding the interim position for two more weeks. They now have heralds in all the Baronies, with two recent changes. Work on the Ceremony Book continues. They are clarifying some of the awards and de-gendering and updating some ceremonies.

Exchequer (Damir): Successor (Heinreich): The College remains solvent. Thanks to Matins for taking over deposits in the interim while he deals with his case of life.

Matins (Edith): Deputies (Ruadrí and Sieglinde): Submissions are continuing to be processed through the system. As a reminder: we do accept forms via electronic submission BUT fees are still required and must be sent in. If the fees are not received by the date of the next meeting. Even if the submission was discussed at the meeting it will not be processed until the fees are received.

Green Crown (Damir, stunt deputy Eilis): It's Twelfth Night and we had a lot of court. My thanks to all the heralds and to Eilis for taking the lead on Coronation and first court.

Baldric (training deputy): Vesper is running training as a College-wide program, not assigned to a specific individual at this time.

Brachet (vacant).

Green Cloak (Alizan): Fall Crown went well. She still needs more voices for field, please continue in recruiting efforts. The banner used at Fall Crown is not large enough, so she will be working on another larger one. The announcements board is working well at Point, two tables were donated, and new stakes are in-process.

Green Trumpet (Gwenhwyfaer): No report received

Green Banner (Aasa): No report received

Golem (Hirsch): Golem has been the usual busy, then not-quite-so-busy. Court Reports are coming in, in a timely fashion, and most of the time he doesn’t have to nag the royalty (much) about checking their email and confirming the reports. There have been no major updates to the website, pretty much “things as usual”.

SUBMISSONS – January (2023)

ITEMS SENT TO LAUREL
Ceara ingen Ailchon (NEW Name Change sent to Laurel)

This is a change from the Holding Name: Jennifer of Oertha.

Ceara - Irish Gaelic from NCS Academy of St Gabriel Report 2106 [http://www.s-gabriel.org/2106].

The Gaelic name <Cera> is found in early medieval Irish records, before 1200 [1]. Gaelic spelling underwent a change around the year 1200, and this name was spelled <Ceara> in the later system.

ingen - Per SENA, Appendix A, <ingen> is the Old/Middle Gaelic [before c.1200] spelling.

Ailchon - from masculine name Ailchú found in NCS "Index of Names in Irish Annals" by Mari ingen Briain meic Donnchada [http://medievalscotland.org/kmo/AnnalsIndex/Masculine/Ailchu.shtml]. The latest Annals date for this Middle Irish name is 947, which puts it within 300 years of the Early Modern form of the given name.

<Ailchon> is the correct genitive form for the patronymic, according to the source for the name.

The (Gaelic) name formation <given + marked patronymic> is found in SENA, Appendix A.

Holta-Cempestrae sjóna (NEW Name Change sent to Laurel)

The previously registered, Cempestrae of Winter’s Gate, is to be released upon registration.

The submitter cares about the language and/or culture (Icelandic/Norwegian/Swedish/Finnish 700-1200) and gender (female) of the name and further requests Authenticity for language and/or culture and time period.

Originally submitted as <Cempestrae í Holta-sjona>, the name was corrected by the West and agreed by the submitter to this version

Holta- - from NCS “Viking Bynames found in the Landnámabók” by Aryanhwy merch Catmael (Sara L. Uckelman) <Holta-> a byname meaning <Wood-> or <Forest-> that is placed in front of and conjoined to the given name with <->

Cempestrae - from the previously registered name under the Existing Registration Allowance, as originally registered with the Legal Name Allowance

sjóna - from NCS “Viking Bynames found in the Landnámabók” by Aryanhwy merch Catmael (Sara L. Uckelman) lists “sjóna” meaning “seeress” [https://www.ellipsis.cx/~liana/names/norse/vikbynames.html]. This name is acceptable for registration as per the April 2011 LoAR sn. Þórdís sjóna says:

"The byname sjóna "seeress" was used to describe normal people, and is not an unregisterable claim to superhuman powers; it was registered as recently as 2008."

Which was reinforced with registration of <Ásælfr Sjóna> on the March 2019 LoAR.

The Scandinavian name formation (given name + byname) is found in SENA, Appendix A. The submitter is using all of the accents and diacritical marks.
